ABOUT THE RABBIT...
A lo-fi frappe of synth, strings, and sugary vocals over looped beats with crunchy guitar are some prime ingredients for Rabbit Velvet's sound. RV is inspired by guitarists Dr. Know, John Squire, Johnny Marr, The Edge, and Will Sergeant along with Neil Young’s stark soundtrack for Jim Jarmusch’s “Dead Man”.
RV earned attention on college radio and spins from Wales to Japan and places in between with her virgin solo offering “Crows and Doves” early this millennia. Mastered by Larry Alexander, the album was noted as “Best Of” placement in; Portugal’s Alternative Charts, Scholars and Rogues/Denver, KALX U Cal Berkeley, and WRSU’s Machine Age Voodoo. “Beautiful Things” was also shared on air in London for BBC Introducing while other tracks caught the ears of Irwin Chusid at world famous free form radio - WFMU and "Homegrown Spotlight" at WDHA, among other specialty radio shows in RV's locale of NJ, and beyond.
“Fuzz Mother”, RV'S second album, along with a third evil twin sister collection, "Ochre Ombre" were born digitally in early 2017, after "Crows and Doves". Several songs from Fuzz Mother were spun on college and Internet radio via "single" releases between 2014 and onward. “Roses So Red” and “The Owl Song” were on The Brandi Alexander and Machine Age Voodoo shows at WRSU , while Bella Union’s Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins) selected “I Can’t Save the World”, to play on his Amazing Radio Show in the UK via BBC Introducing.
RV is also a visual artist and does all graphic representations accompanying the music through hand made and signed prints, T-shirts, and video. Check out "Life in Posters"
Rabbit Velvet, is the solo work of Danielle Stauss, branching out from former successful collaborative projects; The Lost Patrol (US), Afterglow, and several other groups and guest vocal appearances. Stauss penned and performed through the first six groundbreaking Lost Patrol albums which some have recently earned the group placement in “History of Dream Pop” and Postpunk.com "Essential Dream Pop". TLP even appears on WFMU's "DVD Gone Wild". Stauss, was a "maven" for Projekt Records, promoting the label at various shows while on tour. Work with Afterglow, a gothic folk ensemble placed the band Stauss co-fronted with longtime friend, footballer, and artist, Stephanie Neuhaus, as designated home openers and "Asbury Park" sweethearts for various international touring acts from The Tedeschi Trucks Band in 2013 to The Cucumbers, Our Lady Peace, Ron Sexsmith and a slew of others through the world famous venue “The Saint” and other NJ stages, including NJPAC and The Souper Groove Festival. Afterglow was also earned "Best Female Vocals" and Best Acoustic Band" for The Asbury Music Awards. Afterglow played some early house shows put on by Jon DeRosa in his earlier music situations.
Stauss has also sung with: Silence, The LatTEr, Lasher 13, and Jason Bonthron. RV has also had tracks on two of Notrock's compilations between 2013-15, including one exclusive track "Adeline", which was also performed acoustically on WDHA. Currently RV also sings and plays guitar with the fully live indie-salt-hoegaze quartet Goodbye Berlin.
